Providence Assists Loved Ones Through Grief Recovery

Are you mourning the loss of a loved one? That’s ok. Grief is the normal and natural reaction to loss. And, yes, it does hurt. You are not alone. Everyone experiences some kind of loss in their life. However, it is comforting to know that we do not have to go through the grieving process alone.

Grieving over the loss of a loved one can often be a lengthy, difficult process. Providence Hospital’s Palliative Care Service Grief Recovery Program is designed to help you through this tragic time in your life. The Palliative Care staff understands what you are going through and wants to help.

Experience a Warm Environment in the Providence Hospital Grief Support Course

The program is extended to Providence Hospital and Carroll Manor, and provides FREE informationeducation, and support in a gentle atmosphere for grieving persons to share their experiences. The support group meets every Wednesday, 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm for five (5) sessions. Topics discussed include:

  • Understanding Grief: Developing an awareness of the grief process and the normal manifestations of grief.
  • Remembering: The bereaved can gradually absorb their emotional ties to the deceased and re-direct their energies in life by remembering and talking about the deceased.
  • Relationships and Role Changes: Recognizing the changes in relationships and roles as major variables influencing grief reactions and changing the “story”. This process involves letting go of relationships and roles, and encouraging one another.
  • Feelings and Stress: Understanding the range of feelings and emotions that occur after the death of a loved one and recognizing the effects of stress.
  • Holidays and Anniversaries: Strategies for coping with the holidays and recognizing they can cause an exacerbation of grief symptoms.
