Intensive Care Unit Supports Patients and Families with an Advanced Level of Care
Visiting Your Loved one at Providence Hospital ICU
We understand the delicate nature of your loved one’s condition. In their time of need, Providence will provide the most comprehensive care possible, making sure to keep the comfort of the patient a top priority. We maintain a clear line of open communication between the care team and the patient and family. A private family consultation room, located near the Intensive Care waiting area, is available for family and medical staff consultations.
To maintain the comfort and safety of each of our patients, we ask that you visit during the regular visiting hours of 1:00 p.m - 6:00 p.m. Please feel free to bring cards to your loved one, but due to the condition of some of the patients, we request that you not bring live flowers or balloons when visiting.
Highly Trained Intensive Care Team Focuses on Patient Safety
Patient care is rendered by a multidisciplinary team of physicians, residents, nurses, nursing technicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, care managers, dietitians, and pastoral care. The physicians in the ICU are Intensivists who are physicians highly trained and accredited in critical care medicine. Quality patient care is our first priority, and many initiatives that focus on patient safety are in place.
The ICU nurses are members of a rapid response team that includes a respiratory therapist and the senior ICU resident. This team assesses patients throughout the hospital, providing early intervention to the patient whose condition is deteriorating. The ICU staff also responds to cardiac and respiratory arrests throughout the hospital.
Caring for Your Loved One
Your loved one will be well cared for during their stay in Intensive Care. We have developed standards identified by Ascension Health's "Reducing Harm in ICU" and "Transforming Care at the Bedside" initiatives. The medical care provided exceeds the recommendations of such nationally recognized organizations as the Leap Frog Group and Delmarva's 100,000 Lives and Beyond Collaborative.
