Providence Diabetes and Nutrition Center serves the community with education and nutritional counseling for persons living with prediabetes and other chronic diseases, and those with prediabetes to avoid developing the disease.If you are visually impaired or have difficulties in group sessions, please let us know and we will design a program that works for you. Interpreter services available upon request at the time of the service if applicable.

In inclement weather, all Providence Diabetes and Nutrition Center programs will follow the Prince Georges County Public Schools regarding closings, including evening activities. This does not include individual appointments - they will be handled on a case by case basis so please call to confirm.
Prediabetes Group Informational Session | 1 hour | $10/Person
Learn how to prevent the onset of Type 2 diabetes, and obtain resources that can assist you with your prediabetes journey. No insurance or physician referral required for this session. Pre-registration is required!
One-time informational sessions will be offered on the following dates in 2018-2019 from 11AM - 12PM.
- Preventing the onset of Type 2 Diabetes
- Eating better and managing prediabetes with diet and exercise
Participants should arrive 15 minutes prior to the session to complete pre-registration information. Sessions are led on a rotating schedule by Registered Dietitian/Certified Diabetes Educator, Andrea C. Troutner. For more information, click learn more or call 202-854-7128.
Prediabetes & Diabetes Support Group / 1 hour/ Free
Patients and family members share how they cope with diabetes and offer encouragement to one another. Discussions vary and include specialty topics. There is no fee or referral for this program.
Sessions are held on the first Friday of every month from 11am-12noon. Dates, times, and locations are subject to change.

Group Diabetes Self-Management Training (DSMT) & Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) Programs

The diabetes self-management training (DSMT) and diabetes self-management education (DSME) administered by Providence Diabetes and Nutrition Center meets the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education (NSDSME), and has been recognized with education program status from the American Diabetes Association since 1994.

Designed for a newly diagnosed patient or who needs a refresher course in basic diabetes management, these sessions contains an introduction to diabetes, with an emphasis on meal planning and physical activity.

Designed for a patient with limited DSME allowable visits, or who needs a refresher course in basic diabetes management.

Personal 1:1 Education
After you have completed your first individual visit at the Center and completed one of our training and education sessions, your journey continues a personal 1:1 medical nurtrition planning session with our RD. This session will cover personalized information that builds on your learning from the group sessions.
