The Center for Life

For over 32 years, the Center for Life at Providence Hospital has provided obstetrical and gynecological care to women and children who need it the most. Our services and programs at the Center for Life truly follow Providence’s mission to give special attention to persons who are poor and vulnerable in our community. The team of board certified obstetrician-gynecologists and certified nurse-midwives serve over 15,000 patients a year, of which 1,500 are new obstetrical patients.

The Center accepts most major insurances as well as Maryland and DC Medicaid. This program covers prenatal care, hospitalization, labs, diagnostic services, and newborn hospital care. .

CenteringPregnancy®

Aside from affordable healthcare, the Center for Life hosts an innovative pregnancy program. Established in 2007, the CenteringPregnancy program is a group care model that allows patients to get involved in their own self-care. The groups, which consists of 10-12 women with similar due dates, meet ten times over the course of 9 months to monitor the mother and baby’s progress, as well as to discuss important pregnancy and birthing information. The Center hosts groups for teen mothers and groups that are conducted entirely in Spanish. The CenteringParenting® program, beginning late 2009, is a well-baby care program that continues group care for the same women and children involved the CenteringPregnancy Program through the first year of the child’s life.

Teen Parenting Program

The Teen Parenting Program provides support to adolescents during pregnancy and for the first year of their child's life. The program's goal is to help the youth we serve make better choices and have improved outcomes in all areas of their lives. Clients are provided direct support, information, education and referrals to other community resources. We seek to help clients make the transition from "teens to parents."
