TeleCare
What Is TeleCare?
TeleCare is a special service offered through the Senior Connection program at Providence Hospital. This program is a telephone reassurance service provided to elderly and homebound clients in the metropolitan Washington community. It operates as a daily safety check for those who are isolated and offers a connection to others in the community. Our mission is to help lessen the loneliness of those who are homebound due to age, illness or immobility.
How Does TeleCare Work?
TeleCare volunteers are each assigned a client. The volunteers make daily telephone calls to the client to provide a break in the monotony of long hours spent alone. They also provide an opportunity to identify unmet medical or social needs the client may be facing.
Individuals who are homebound for any reason may participate in the Telecare program. Those who are usually at home alone may also be eligible to receive calls. Telecare clients take advantage of regular "social visits" by phone. They have the security of knowing someone cares.
TeleCare Volunteers
Telecare welcomes volunteers who have a willingness and ability to listen. To become a Telecare volunteer you must have access to a telephone and commit to call clients on a regular basis.
Volunteers participate in an orientation before beginning telephone service. Senior Connection personnel provides continuing education and review sessions. During these sessions volunteers discuss new ideas and help one another solve any problems that might arise.
TeleCare is a creative way to give your time and talent. Our volunteers enhance the skills they bring to the program and receive the personal satisfaction of serving in the community.
