Interpreter Services
In keeping with the tenets and spirit of our mission to provide healthcare that works, healthcare that is safe, and healthcare that leaves no one behind, Providence Hospital provides free interpreter services to assist non or limited-English-speaking patients and families during their hospital stay.
Interpreter services can be requested 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. During normal business hours, on-site interpreters are available to assist patients, family members, and visitors in Spanish and in French. Interpretation is also available in over 150 languages through Advanced Communication and Translation (ACT), a contracted telephonic service provider. Patients and associates should use this service when there is no on-site interpreter available; after hours and on weekends; and/or during an emergency. For ease of communication, a second handset may be obtained from the nurse's station in each department and/or unit.
Patients and associates are encouraged to request interpretation assistance in advance of their appointment. Interpreter Services can be reached at (202) 269-4026, or via email.
Deaf and/or Hard of Hearing patients should contact the Communications department at (202) 269-7125 to obtain TTY/TDD phones. The Communications department can also assist patients in securing American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters.
