Welcome to the website of the Admitting Department at Providence Hospital. You can contact Admitting at (202) 269-7861 seven days per week from 6:30 AM to 11:30 PM . ( NOTE: You may go directly to the location of services listing below. If the service you are to receive is not listed below please go to the Main Registration area.)
The following list is the different locations for Admitting and hours of operation:

  • Main Registration (Ground Floor of Hospital) - Routine Diagnostic Services (e.g., Laboratory and Radiology Services) - Hours of Operation: 6:30 AM to 11:30 PM seven days per week
  • Surgery Registration (1 st Floor) - Same Day Surgery - Hours of Operation: 5:30 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Friday
  • Wellness Center Registration (Third Floor) - Mammography Services, Bone Density Services, Wellness Physicals and Nutritional Counseling - Hours of Operation: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday.
  • Outpatient Rehabilitation Services Registration (Ground Floor) - Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy - Hours of Operation: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Friday
  • Emergency Room Registration (Ground Floor) - Emergency Room - Hours of Operation: 24 hours per day seven days per week. All patient registrations will be handled by the Emergency Room Admitting staff between 11:30 PM and 6:30 AM every day.

General Policy

Providence Hospital Admitting Department has the goal of minimizing the time required and inconvenience of the administrative requirements for you to receive the needed medical services.

If you are uninsured, Providence Hospital has Financial Counselors to assist you in qualifying for public assistance, such as, Medicaid and DC Alliance. If you do not qualify for any insurance plan, you may be eligible for charity assistance. If you do not have insurance or qualify for charity assistance, Providence Hospital provides a discount for the medical services received.

If you have any questions about the Insurance and Health Plans that Providence Hospital participates, please call (202) 269-7861 between 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, for the most updated listing.

If you have any questions about your coverage or the authorization requirements of your insurance plan, you should find a telephone number to call or a website on your insurance card for receiving information on your insurance plan requirements and coverage.

Things you should know

Pre-authorization Process:

Your insurance plan may require that you contact them for authorization of medical services prior to the services being provided in order for them to make payment to the hospital. Check you insurance plan for pre-authorization requirements.

Pre-admission process:

For scheduled medical services, you may be contacted to provide your insurance information along with your demographic information prior to the day of service. This will assist Providence Hospital in verifying that your health plan will pay for the services and that the required pre-authorization has been received from your insurance plan.

Arrival Time for Admitting Process

Arrive 30 minutes before the time of your service to complete the necessary paper work.

Minimum Required Documents at Admitting

  • Insurance Plan Member Card
  • Identification Card (Picture ID) (e.g., driver's license or passport)
  • Physician Order for Diagnostic Services (Signed by Physician with the medical reason for the diagnostic test)
  • If required by your insurance plan, a Completed Referral and Authorization Form.

Patient Valuables

  • It is recommended that you do not bring valuables with you to the hospital or if you do, send them home with a family member or friend.
  • If requested, the Admitting staff will secure your valuables in a hospital safe during your hospital stay.
