Providence Hospital has the ability of providing oncology/cancer services from two capacities, an inpatient unit and an outpatient center.
The inpatient unit is a 14-bed unit designed to provide quality patient care for the adult patient who has been diagnosed with cancer and who is in some phase of active treatment. The delivery of care is guided and directed by the mission and philosophy of Providence Hospital . The unit is designed to create an environment of serenity, healing and comfort.
A multidisciplinary team with members from various health care disciplines works in collaborative roles to provide necessary care to individuals undergoing various therapies for cancer. To achieve efficiency in oncology patient outcomes and provide continuity of care, staff members maintain their competency, expand skills and increase their knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
The outpatient infusion treatment center (ITC) is an ambulatory care area for patients to receive IV infusion treatment and other defined outpatient services. The overall goal is to minimize hospitalizations and encourage health care professionals, patients and families to play an active role in healthcare delivery. The center provides comprehensive care and continuity of care and incorporates the following goals: creating a caring environment, delivering high-quality services and optimizing quality of life for patients. The ITC operates on an eight-hour (8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) schedule, but hours of operation may be adjusted daily to meet the needs of the patients.
Both units work in conjunction with the Wellness Institute with programs that focus on the maintaining the whole person: spirit, mind and body. The hospital offers programs including Look Good Feel Better , Reach to Recovery and monthly support groups.
The oncology/cancer service is also proud to be a part of the Paul Carey Foundation, which permits Providence Health Foundation and other committee members to provide funds or additional services to patients living with cancer who are not covered by health insurance plans. A committee member reviews the individual case and makes recommendations for the needed services or support (i.e., transportation, food services, home care needs, etc.)
Providence Hospital 's Cancer Program is certified by the American College of Surgeons and Commission on Cancer as a Teaching Cancer Program
