Providence Hospital's Laparoscopic Bariatric Program, performing routine gastric bypass surgery and adjustable gastric band (LAP-BAND®) and general surgery. According to the National Institutes of Health, weight loss surgery, when compared to other weight loss methods, has produced the longest period of sustained weight loss.

Marc S. Rickford, M.D.
Dr. Rickford is a native Washingtonian who was raised in suburban Maryland. He went to high school in the district at Gonzaga College High School. Dr . Rickford obtained his B.S. in chemistry ('92) and medical degree ('96) from Howard University. General surgery residency was done at Howard University Hospital. He also spent two years at the National Institue of Health, National Cancer Institute as a research fellow with publication. After the completion of general surgery residency, He did an additional 18 month fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at Providence Hospital. Dr. Rickford has successfully preformed over 350 bariatric procedures with excellent results. He is board certified in general surgery and member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons and International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity. He is also Chief of Clinical Services in the department of surgery at Providence Hospital.
